In 1985, amidst the height of the wars in Lebanon, passionate readers establishedMokhtarat, a publishing house, a bookshop, and a haven for gatherings, attracting writers seeking a space for expression and readers yearning for a broader literary environment. In 1989, despite the ongoing wars, those behindMokhtaratpersisted in their commitment to culture and the arts. They added a realm of colors to the bookshelves through a space for displaying artistic works, as well as framing. Readers and writers of varying backgrounds and interests welcomed emerging artists and various genres of visual art. In spring 2024, approximately forty years later, the custodians ofMokhtarathave expanded their establishment to include a larger space for periodic exhibitions starting from this spring, in the same lilac-colored house in Zalka. Exhibits will range from paintings, dozens of antique furnishings and carpets, thousands of artworks and sculptures, and tens of thousands of books, including rare and vintage editions. The exhibition space opens starting from Monday, April 15, 2024, daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PMexcept on Sundays.

En 1985, au plus fort des guerres au Liban, des lecteurs/lectrices passionné(e)s ont créé Mokhtarat, maison d’édition et librairie, un havre de rencontres, attirant des écrivain(e)s cherchant un espace d’expression, et des lecteurs/lectrices aspirant à des horizons plus ouverts. En 1989, en dépit des guerres toujours en cours, les fondateurs deMokhtaratont persisté dans leur engagement envers la culture et les arts. Ils ont ajouté une palette de couleurs aux étagères de livres, grâce à un espace d’exposition d’œuvres d’art, ainsi qu’un atelier d’encadrement. À côté des lecteurs/lectrices et écrivain(e)s d’inclinations diverses, ils ont accueilli les artistes émergents ainsi que des courants divers d’art contemporain. En 2024, environ quarante ans plus tard, les mêmes, à Mokhtaratagrandissent l’établissement pour inclure un espace plus vaste ouvert à des expositions périodiques, dans la même maison couleur lilas à Zalka. Les expositions s’étalent entre livres, peintures, sculptures et ameublements : des dizaines de meubles anciens et de tapis, des milliers d’œuvres d’art, peintures et sculptures, et des dizaines de milliers de livres, y compris des éditions anciennes et rares. L’espace d’exposition ouvre àpartir du mercredi 17 avril 2024, tous les jours de 9h00à20h00 sauf le dimanche.

في العام 1985، والحروب في لبنان على أوجّها، إرتأى شغوفون بالقراءة أن تكون مختارات، على وقع الاشتباكات، دارًا للنشر ومكتبة وواحة لقاء، مستقطبة الكتّاب والكاتبات الباحثين والباحثات عن مساحة للتعبير والقرّاء والقارئات التوّاقين والتوَاقات إلى فضاء أرحب. في العام 1989، ثابر القائمون في مختارات على الثقافة والفنون خيارًا رغم استمرار الحروب، فأضافوا عالمًا من الألوان إلى رفوف الكتب عبر مساحة لتعليق وعرض الأعمال الفنّية، فضلًا عن محترف للبراويز. الى القرّاء والقارئاتوالكتّاب والكاتباتعلى اختلاف توجّهاتهم(ن) استقبلوا الفنّانين والفنانات الناشئين والناشئات مع أعمال الفن التشكيلي باختلاف تيّاراته. في العام 2024، بعد ما يناهز الأربعين عامًا، يضيف القائمون في مختارات،إلى الدار والمكتبة والمحترف والإطارات، مساحة أوسع لمعارض دورية في البيت الليلكي عينه في الزلقا. تتجاورعشرات من المفروشات القديمة والسجّاد، وآلاف من اللوحات الفنّية والمنحوتات وعشرات الآلاف من الكتب، بينها القديم والنادر. تفتح مساحة العرض ابتداء من الاثنين 15 نيسان 2024، يوميًا من التاسعة صباحًا ولغاية الثامنة مساءً ما عدا الأحد.
